  3. Non-Purpose • To make political statements about NCLB • (Though I could make several) • To determine how to get rid of bad teachers • (Though we should make every effort to do so)

  7. Learning Facilitator • Keep up on research on change • Model differentiating professional development learning for adult learners, not the one shot wonder • Understanding how adults learn • Knowing what resources are available to help our teachers

  8. Resource Provider • Find resources teachers need • Teach teachers how to find what they need • Teach teachers to think critically about what they are using and doing • Scaffold their learning so I don’t do all of it for them • Build experts in my building

  9. Classroom Supporter • Deep understanding of curriculum and instructional strategies • Knowledge of school culture • Coaching Skills • Communicate clearly and concisely • Build trusting relationships • Respect for all in the building

  10. Hand up, stand up, pair up • Stand up • Walk till the music stops • Put up your hand • Pair up with someone you don’t know • Discuss who fills these roles in your setting and how: • Learning facilitator, resource provider, classroom supporter

  11. Curriculum Specialist • Understanding all content • Establishing credibility • Time to do “it” well • Focus is on kids and how they learn best • Making sure curriculum is taught

  16. Data Coach • Risk free environment • Examine and understand data • Make it clear • My own data for modeling the process of alignment and accountability • What strategies work for what we need immediately

  17. Instructional Specialist • Deep understanding of content/curriculum • Knows a variety of effective strategies • Effective teaching • Skills in questioning, listening • How students learn • Differentiated instruction

  18. School Leader • Vision and mission driven • Observer • Planner based on data • Facilitator • Monitor and progress reporter • Monitor of the Intervention Wall

  19. Innovation Configurations • Moving NSDC’s Staff Development Standards into Practice • Roles are clearly defined and rubrics are established so there is no guessing • Allows each member of staff to do their own analysis and make their own choices about personal change
