  2. Original Research Questions • Does the program effectively promote cultural awarenesson campus for the minority and majority students? • Have the students noticed a difference in their perception on campus over the last 1-4 years? • Are the programs being implemented content oriented, student oriented and socially oriented?

  3. Amended Research Questions • Does the program effectively promote Latino cultural awareness on campus?  Why or why not? • Does the program provide effective opportunities for forming a sense of connection among the Latino population on campus? • What are some ways this campus might be able to improve on promoting multiculturalism?

  4. The Questions Evolved….

  5. Data has been collected, analyzed and themes developed • 1 Focus group conducted with 6 Latino students • 1 Interview completed with primary client • 2 questionnaires completed by 30 Latino students • Currently prioritizing tentative findings and recommendations to be submitted to the client

  6. Campus Culture

  7. Tentative Research Findings

  8. Recommendations • Programs need to be visible to all students • minimize use of the terms “diversity and multiculturalism” • Need another full time staff position • Tie the programs to educational purposes • Combine programs with other established events but don’t make it about diversity

  9. Recommendations • Don’t make any programs a requirement for students • Create more venues/locations were students can interact more naturally (not always at a “program”) • Partner with more departments that are not “usual suspects”.

  10. Narrow your focus to see the big picture
