Understanding Sprains: Causes, Symptoms, and Treatment

DESCRIPTION

Sprains are injuries resulting from ligaments being overstretched or torn, leading to pain and instability in the affected joint. Ligaments are crucial connective tissues that stabilize bones in joints, and damage can cause swelling, bruising, and significant discomfort. Recognizing the symptoms of a sprain is essential for proper treatment and recovery. Immediate care usually involves rest, ice, compression, and elevation (RICE) to reduce swelling and pain. Understanding sprains can help you take proactive steps in prevention and treatment.
