  3. The First Clocks #1 • The first clocks were created in Egypt and China. • Sundial- first clock used by Egyptians. • Nickname “Shadow Clock.” • Water Clock- Invented in 1088. • Method was used for over 300 years.

  4. The First Clocks #2 • Water trickled into a bowl and dripped slowly in increments to show markings of time. • Hourglass- Common clock used in Egypt. • Made of sand and glass.

  5.  How the Clock has Improved #1  • Water Clocks-The water clock was the first clock invented. • Commonly used in various parts of the world. • Grandfather Clocks- Controlled by a heavy pendulum swinging back and forth. • Invented in 1657. • Mechanical Clocks- Used batteries or other forms of technology to power them.

  6.  How the Clock has Improved #2  • Mechanical clocks were first invented in Europe. • First mechanical clock was called a “Foliot.”

  7.  Inventors of Clocks #1  • Egyptians- Egypt is where the water clock originated from. • Inventor of the water clock- Ctesibius • China- First mechanical clock created. • Re-introduced in Egypt. • One of the most elaborate clocks made were invented in China.

  8.  Inventors of Clocks #2  • Christian Hughes- Made the first Grandfather clock. • Invented the clock n 1657 • He kept trying to improve on his invention.

  9.  Conclusion  • As the clock keeps improving there’s no telling when it could stop. • Started from the first invention to mechanical clocks. • Without the clock, you couldn’t keep track of time as easy!
