Mrs. Woods’ Weekly Newsletter August 18 – 22 W Reminders August 27 – School Picture Day A Note from Mrs. Woods Our Week • Reading: Boom Town • Visualization • Realism vs. Fantasy • We will spend 2 weeks on most of our stories. We will test on this story on Friday, August29th. • Vocabulary Words: boom, spell, pick, fetched, skillet, coins, business, laundry, mending • Spelling: Lesson 1 • Words with the short vowel sound in the first syllable (VCCV, VCCCV patterns) • List Words: happen, lettuce, basket, winter, sister, monster, supper, subject, lesson, spelling, napkin, collar, traffic, suggest, puppet skillet, picnic, planet, system, pumpkin • Language Arts (Grammar/Writing): • Identifying sentences and fragments • Handwriting practice Aa, Bb, Cc, Dd, Ee, Ff, Gg, Hh, Ii, Jj • Math: • Place Value • Naming and writing numbers in standard, expanded, and word form to 100 thousands place Every Monday, you should receive a newsletter like this one. I want you to be aware of what we will be studying during the week so you can reinforce those concepts at home. I also us it to remind you of upcoming events. My contact information is also on here. Please don’t hesitate to contact me with questions or concerns. Students have a Reading Log in their binders. They need to be reading 80 minutes or more each week. We won’t start math fact practice until September. I will take these up on Monday mornings. Technology I have a webpage on our school website. Please visit it often.
