University of Cyprus • Aims to establish itself as a Pioneer Research Institution achieving International Scientific Recognition in European Higher Education, offering Competitive Programmes and to become a Centre of Excellence in the wider Euro - Mediterranean Region. • Main objectives: • The promotion of scholarship and education through teaching and research, and • The enhancement of the cultural, social and economic development of Cyprus. • 55th best "New" University in the World

University of Cyprus • Established in 1989, first undergraduate and postgraduate students accepted respectively in 1992 and 1998 • Over 6200 students in 20 years (first year 486) • 10 000 students by 2020 • Despite being a fairly new University, it is recognized as a centre of excellence in the Mediterranean region • Research is promoted and funded in all departments at both local and international level • Currently more than 300 research projects funded by EU • Successful proposals under FP5, FP6, FP7, INCO, COST, INTERREG, MEDA, etc.

  6. Department of Computer Science • Among the first departments to assume operation. • 20(+) academic staff, 500(+) undergraduate and 100(+) graduate students • The Department offers a Bachelor degree in Computer Science as well as five Master degrees and a Ph.D. degree in Computer Science

Computer Science Department - Mission • Provide high-quality education in all areas of Computer Science, in undergraduate and postgraduate level • Undertake word-class, high-impact research in Computer Science • Promote the effective application of Information Technology within local industry and economy, and contribute to the development of the national IT industry

  8. Computer Science Department - History • Established in 1989 • one of the first departments in UCY • Accepted first undergraduate students in 1992 • Started its M.Sc. in Advanced Information Technologies program in 2000 • Moved into its current premises in 2003

Department of Computer Science • 13 active Research Laboratories in areas such as Software Engineering and Internet Technologies, Artificial Intelligence, Computer Architecture, Data Management, and Theoretical Computer Science • Since 2000, participated in numerous projects funded by various frameworks of the European Union: • H2020, FP-IST, EUMEDIS, INCO-DC, SOCRATES, LEONARDO DA VINCI, INTERREG, MED, etc. • Over the last 6 years, involved in more than 130 research projects funded from both the European Union and the Cyprus Research Promotion Foundation with total funding of over 13 million Euros

  14. SEIT Lab – EU Projects Overview • SEIT was actively involved in the 5th, 6th, 7th Framework and HORIZON 2020, where it participated in multiple EU projects and attracted more than €6M in funding FP6 FP7 FP5 HORIZON 2020

SEIT Lab – EU Projects Overview • SEIT has also been involved in national projects and other EU funded initiatives, notably AAL (Ambient Assisted Living), ESIS (European Survey in Information Society), but also the Leonardo Da Vinci framework on Vocational Training Other EU funded initiatives

Recent Awards • Digital Championship 2015-2016 - 3rd Award Student Entrepreneurship - To MariosKomodromos (MSc Student at SEIT) for his project DangerAwareness - Awards Ceremony and Award Ceremony Photo. • SEIT lab has received the best paper award in the 14th International Conference on Software Reuse (ICSR 2015) for the paper "Open Source License Violation Check for SPDX Files"! • SEIT lab Connected Vitality Network (CVN) EU project was selected as 1 of the 9 success stories for AAL projects across all calls. • The 3-year project funded by AAL (AMBIENT ASSISTED LIVING) turned out to be a highly inspirational process which led to the successful development of YoooM and YooM-tablet devices and platforms - See more at: AAL Success Stories.
