Introduction • Dictionaries have been widely acclaimed as important tools for second language learning, especially for reading comprehension. • Along with the development of technology, most dictionaries are also available in electronic format in addition to the printed form. • Most university students in Indonesia still prefer using bilingual printed dictionaries to bilingual e-dictionaries

Data Collection • The students are given two sets of reading comprehension tests. • In answering the first test, the students are equipped with bilingual printed dictionaries; • In answering the second test, they are equipped with bilingual electronic dictionaries installed in personal computers.

  6. Data Analysis • Arithmetic Mean: to compare the average scores • t-test for correlated samples: to determine whether a bilingual e-dictionary is significantly better than a printed dictionary in fostering L2 reading comprehension

  8. T-test result • T-value = 0.21 • T-table = 1.76 • Consequently, the bilingual electronic dictionary is not significantly better than the printed dictionary in fostering L2 reading comprehension

Conclusion The printed dictionary turns out to be slightly better than the electronic dictionary in fostering L2 Reading Comprehension, perhaps it is because: • The Indonesian university students feel more comfortable using the printed version than the electronic one. • Electronic dictionaries have not been largely used in Indonesia. • The features of the printed dictionary are better than those in the electronic dictionary.
