  5. Simple Continuous Form • Write as many sentences as you can about this picture in 2 minutes….

  6. 2 things with Simple • Use it only…. • A: An activity that is happening right now. • You are listening. You might be sleeping. • B: The event began in the past.. Is in progress now.. Will probably continue into the future.. • I am teaching at Corvinus. You are studying.

  7. Past Progressive/Continuous • … was +ing verb • Started in the past and was in progress at a particular time in the past and continued till a certain time. • Ex. Tom was sleeping when I arrived.

  8. Future Progressive • The action will begin before, in progress at a particular time and will continue.. • Tom will be sleeping when we arrive.

  9. Perfect Progressive Tenses • The present progressive tenses give the idea that one event is in progress immediately before, up to, until another time or event. The tenses are used to express the duration of the first event.

  10. Present Perfect Progressive • Ex: Tom has been studying for two hours. • Event in Progress: • When? • Before now, up to now • How Long? • For two hours

  11. Past Perfect Progressive • Tom had been studying for two hours before his friend came. • Event in progress: studying • When? • Before another event in the past. • How long? • For two hours.

  12. Future Perfect Progressive • Tom will have been studying for two hours by the time his friend arrives. • Event in progress: studying • When? • Before another event in the future • How long? • For two hours.

  13. Practice • What are you doing right now? How long have you been (doing that)? • What were you doing last night at nine o’clock? What time did you stop (doing that)? Why did you stop (doing that)? How long had you been (doing that) before you stopped? • What are you going to be doing at nine o’clock tomorrow night? What time are you going to stop (doing that)? Why? How long will you have been (doing that) before you stop?
