  2. Preterite Verbs • You use the preterite to talk about things that happened in the past. • Here are the regular preterite forms of verbs ending in –ar, -er, and –ir.

  3. caminé caminaste caminó caminamos caminasteis caminaron CAMINAR – to walk

  4. comí comiste comió comimos comisteis comieron COMER – to eat

  5. viví viviste vivió vivimos vivisteis vivieron VIVIR – to live

  6. Preterite Verbs • Escalé una montaña hoy. • I climbed a mountian today. • Salimos de la casa a las cinco de la mañana. • We left the house at five o´clock in the morning.

  7. -gar, -car, -zar Verbs • Remember that verbs ending in –gar, -car, and –zar have a spelling change ONLY in the yo form in the preterite. • The other forms of these verbs are regular.
