  2. What is a volcano? A volcano is an opening, or rupture, in a planet's surface or crust, which allows hot magma, ash and gases to escape from below the surface.

  6. There are different types of volcanoes so let’s learn about them!

  7. Composite Volcano -when the lava flow goes through a straight path and out the vent it goes up into the air in a big mass (as shown below) It also has vents on the sides that release lava on the side.

  8. Shield Volcano -when the lava flow goes through a straight path and out the vent it flows in a smooth path down the mountain (as shown below) It’s sides are usually low

  9. There is such thing as a dome volcano but we are not going to talk about that unless there are people who want to learn about it the can come up for lunch and we can have a little group. Let’s move on to the different stages of a volcano.

  10. What are active, dormant and extinct volcanoes? Volcanoes are found in three states - extinct, dormant and active.

  11. Extinct- An extinct volcano will never erupt again.

  12. Dormant- A dormant volcano has not erupted in 2000 years. But, still could erupt.

  13. Active- An active volcano has erupted recently and is likely to erupt again.

  14. Extinct- An extinct volcano will never erupt again. DEAD

  16. Active- An active volcano has erupted recently and is likely to erupt again. Alive
