9. The Statistical Consulting Section Statistical consulting is a challenging and rewarding part of statistics. A consultant uses the art and science of statistics to solve a practical problem from many fields, including marketing, product design, manufacturing, medicine, agriculture, or genetics. Good consulting requires a strong technical background in statistics, good people skills, and, for many, good business sense. • The Consulting Section provides a listserv by which members of the section discuss current applied problems, software issues, specific consulting problems posed by members. • Examples of other issues discussed - Problems associated with being an expert witness in a trial, How to determine appropriate fees for consulting clients, What are the benefits of becoming an Accredited Statistician.
