  4. What Does It Mean To Be Brave? Brave means having courage, willing to risk harm out of a sense of duty. Brave Irene

  5. Have You Ever Been Brave? As a class discuss the following questions: 1. Was there ever a time when you were brave? 2. Have you felt brave during a situation or did you not feel brave until you completed what you started? Brave Irene

  6. 3. Was there ever a time you weren’t brave but wished you were? 4. Was there ever a time you admired someone for being brave? Brave Irene

  7. Before You Read About Irene- Look at the first page of Brave Irene What do you think this story is going to be about? Do you think the girl in the picture is Irene?Does she look brave to you? Why or why not? Brave Irene

  8. Read the Story Brave Irene • While you are reading the story, think about why the character does what she does. • What would you do if you were in the same situations as Irene. Brave Irene

  9. Now that you have read the story, what do you think about Irene? • Do you feel differently about the girl in the story now that you did at the beginning of the story? • Do you think Irene was brave? • Why or why not? Use specific examples from the story. Brave Irene
