  2. In 2009, Elephant Insurance (a car insurance company) established its headquarters in the western Henrico County with 5 employees and today employs over 125. Elephant set up systems, planned policies and procedures, and is now selling automobile insurance coverage in four states. They are focused in bringing vehicle insurance business to Virginia as well as sustainability and continuous improvement in both their work environment and customer service.

  3. One of Elephant's favorite sayings is that they are a casual work environment that does not work casually. Unlike the typical pre-conceived idea of auto insurance companies, everyone at Elephant, even the CEO, sits in identical, low-walled cubicles. While this facilitates collaboration, it is also a reminder that everyone is equally important to the success of the company. "Herd members" also take initiative in building their company. Employees are tasked with creating, best practices, effective processes and training programs and have formalized programs for leadership development to help support internal growth. They are proud to share that 26% of their staff have taken on formal promotions.

  4. Elephant exists in a competitive vehicle insurance industry with well-known auto insurance companies. They take great pride in their customer service department rivaling the answer and response rates of much larger, established auto insurance companies. They use each customer's unique information to price automobile insurance that is specific to that customer. This ensures that each customer gets car insurance products that best suit their needs. Perhaps one of Elephant’s best strengths amongst other auto insurance companies is that Elephant takes on frugal planning in all aspects of business in order to keep their costs low and passing the savings to their customers.
