  2. What do I take notes on? • As you read, look for answers to your supporting questions.

  3. Note Taking Options • Must use note cards • If using your own, follow same format • In Library • Paper note cards or electronic version • To type cards, go to: S:\Team Folders\Library\Holocaust Research • At home, print out paper cards from Library website http://www.crsd.org/page/10068

  4. As you take notes…. • At least 15 cards on each supporting question. • Use one note card for each fact. • Write it in your own words. • Write fact in the fewest words possible. This helps avoid plagiarism. • Do not use unnecessary words: the, he, is, etc. • Don’t forget to note the source!

Source on Note Cards • If you have an author: (Smith). • If you have two authors (Smith and Lace). • If no author, use title: (“Winston Churchill”). • If using a book, include page #: (Smith 49). • If you have two sources with no author and the same title add database or website name: (“Winston Churchill” BIC). • If the title is very long, you may use key words • No commas

If you have 2 sources with no authors and the same exact titles, you must use next piece of information from purple sheet, usually a database title or website title. • Example: “Hannah Szenes.” Jewish Virtual Library. 2008. American-Israeli Cooperative Enterprise. 12 Nov 2008. <http://www.jewishvirtuallibrary.org>. • Write it this way: (“Hannah Szenes,” JVL). • Example: “Hannah Szenes.” United States Holocaust Memorial Museum. 12 Nov 2008. <http://www.ushmm.org>. • Write it this way: (“Hannah Szenes,” USHMM).
