  3. What is environmental injustice? . Life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness – it includes equitable access to a healthy environment such as healthy air, clean water and protected land. 3

  4. What is environmental justice? . Environmental justice means each person, regardless of situation or circumstance, has equal opportunity for a safe and clean environment, free from burden or bias We are all entitled to cleaner air, healthier water and better protected land – for us, our children and future generations. 4 4

  5. What is environmental injustice? . KCP&L and Hyde Park understand not bringing harm to neighborhood health & values. They halted siting a substation in Hyde Park. 5

  6. What is environmental injustice? . Environmental justice it means all people, have equitable access to a healthy environment, free of excessive stress that harms health and well-being. We are all entitled to cleaner air, healthier water and better protected land – for us, our children and future generations. 6

  7. What is environmental injustice? . Studies have proven that minority and low-income communities are far more likely to have inequitable access to a healthy environment. 7

  8. What is environmental injustice? . The phrase environmental injusticewas developed to recognize those minority and low-income communities that are bearing a heavy load of pollution and industry. 8

  9. What is environmental injustice? . As we have shown in other presentations (both Stressor and the Toxics & Children's Health slide shows), the Westside is carrying a disproportionate environmental burden in Kansas City. 9

  10. What is environmental injustice? . This is a matter of environmental injustice. We cannot add yet another burden with the many environmental and other stresses brought with another electrical substation. 10

  11. For our children: Say NO! to another Westside substation . Substations threaten our health & safety. Substations blight our neighborhood with ugliness. Substations hurt our property values.
