Effects of illegal pitches (1) • Delayed dead ball • If not batted • Dead ball when all action stops • Extra ball to batter • Runners advances one base • Can runners advance more than one base? • If it hits the batter (hit-by-pitch) • Dead ball • Batter awarded 1st base • Runners advances one base
Effects of illegal pitches (2) • If batted • Batter reaches 1st base – all other runners advance 1 base Illegal pitch is nullified/cancelled • Batter is out at 1st base – or a runner is out or not advanced Manager has the option
Warm-up pitches • At beginning of each half inning • one minute • Maximum 5 pitches • Except: if umpire delays the start of the inning • In ESF tournaments • One minute • Max. 5 pitches in first inning • Max 3 pitches next innings • When pitcher is substituted max 5 pitches are allowed • Except: if umpire delays the start of the inning
During warm-up pitches: • game is suspended • Pitcher returning in the same half inning • Not entitled to warm-up pitches • Who many times a player can return to the pitching position? • No limitation • Except when • He has left the batting order • He is declared an illegal pitcher
