  2. Introduction • Although at one point Long Island City was considered to be New York’s industrial centers, now it has become one of the primary places to live along with newly constructed modernized residential buildings, plans for a new Citibank across from the original one, a new school, and even a post office are now in the works. • Because of the lack of public art in the entire station, we decided to choose the mezzanine of the Queensboro Plaza train station for our public art location. • Adding public art here will enhance not only the best and most beautiful view of Manhattan but it will also show some appreciation to the wonderful place to live in.

  3. About the Community New Developments!!! The New East Side!!! This busy urban area completes itself with food shops, office buildings, a parking lot, and the Queensboro Plaza station. Queensboro Plaza has one of the most spectacular views of New York City. Whilst the Queenboro Bridge looms in the distance. The double-decker station commutes Queens bound trains on the upper deck and the Manhattan bound trains on the lower deck running the 7, N, and W trains through it.

  6. How will this Project improve the quality of Life • The New York Magazine called L. I. C. “the next ultimate address. This name is well deserved. It is the home of the largest film studio in New York, and there are hundreds of art galleries in the area. In a few years it will be the largest art district in New York. • So we asked, why don’t we have artwork that we could view while going to see more of these creative places?

  7. The Project The Project consists in creating new benches at the top level of the Queensboro Plaza Station. These benches will help enhance the overall look of the station. The description of the materials or of the idea itself, is a sample bench with mosaic art from which future projects will depend based on its success. - The Bench is made of mahogany wood which is fine grained and a reddish brown color, and it’s very durable and resists swelling and shrinking. - It also has stainless steel which provides a modern and attractive appearance for its long term value.- Fluorescent lights are added because they are durable and inexpensive. - And the most important piece is the brick wall with the mosaic design that consists of 120 inches in length and width.

  8. Fundings • Mahogany wood for the seats $800 • Two 34 watts fluorescent light tubes $30 each • 30lbs. Of stainless steel $1,500 • Bricks $400 • Tiles $520 • Cement $90 • Contractor 1,480 • Total = 4,850 • Sponsored by the Long Island City Business Development Corporation with the approval by the Long Island City business development manager, Andrew Ebestein.

  10. Conclusion Our primary objective is to modernized and update the Queensboro Plaza station in an economical fashion which would be accessible to the station but also to the commuter and to our climate. We are reminded every day of the destruction of the planet due to climate change and with recyclable materials, commuters can appreciate this bench because it is eco-friendly and it’s also appealing to the eye. This will not only change and update the station but more like this one can change the world. We want to popularize this station with a new look, especially because of its up-coming private industrial buildings that are being constructed in the area. With more benches like this one at the station, will enhance the look of the community but also appeal to the commuters.
