  3. H1N1 & Public Health: What Did We Do? • Public Information • Disease Testing • Partner Communication • SNS resources (PPE, anti-virals) • Vaccinations

  4. Overall Response: • Every local health department (LHD) experienced different challenges • Many common themes across LHDs

  5. Successes • Strong relationships with schools: • Surveillance • Decisions to close • Communication • Vaccination campaign

  7. Successes (continued) • Vaccinators • Contracted workers • Public Health staff • Volunteers

  8. Challenges • Communication • With area partners • With state leadership • With media • Internally (jurisdictionally as well as department)

  10. Challenges (continued) • Formal Guidance: • News releases/templates limited at first • Decisions were often made verbally but not documented formally for a period of time • Communication from State improved with time

  11. Areas for Improvement • Expand/update local Mass Clinic and Pandemic Influenza plans to be adjusted based on scope and severity of disease • Improve communication (internally, externally) • Ensure consistent use of technology to maximize resources

  12. Corrective Actions Taking Place • Healthcare Forum re-established • MediaSite Live implemented and available for future events • LHDs are all getting up to speed with WEDSS • Each LHD working on their own individual Improvement Plans related to H1N1 response
