  2. 1 6 5 Culture ▶Reading Comprehension Father Lee’s Heartwarming Story on the Screen Lee Tae-seok is a Korean priest. For the people of Tonj, a small village in Sudan, he is a very special person. Last February, Lee, known as the father of Tonj, passed away at the age of 48 after suffering from cancer. A brass band marched through the village with the boys in front holding the picture of the Catholic father smiling. The villagers shed tears in deep sorrow for their loss. Lee became a Catholic priest after finishing medical school. He went to Tonj, visited an impoverished village and a colony of Hansen’s disease patients. As a doctor, he cured thousands of patients in Tonj and saved many lives. He even built a clinic where he treated hundreds of patients a day. Lee was not just a doctor for the people of Tonj. He was also an educator. He built a school for the children. There, he taught math and music to young students.In 2008, he was diagnosed with cancer. He passed away last January, leaving his last words “Don’t worry. Everything is going to be all right,” before bidding good-bye to his friends in Tonj. The Korea Broadcasting System (KBS) aired a documentary of Lee’s life story last year. This was later made into a film titled “Don’t cry for me, Sudan.” The wonderful life story of this father, doctor, teacher, conductor, and architect continues to move the hearts of many people of today. ☞ Choose the best answer based on the article.
