Summary • The 2-hour EOP1 Theory Exam consists of: • 80 objective (multiple choice) questionsof equal value (similar to format in EOC exams). • The items are grouped according to courses, with 10 items from each of the eight courses in Phase 1 (excluding Foundations). • Date: Friday 8th May • Time: 9:30 am reading time, 9:45 am start • Location: Teahouses, Royal Randwick Racecourse

  4. Derivation of Exam Questions (1) • Approximately: • 20% from online formative assessments (moderate difficulty, good discriminators) • 40% from end of course exams • 40% new questions • Spread across themes from each course • Spread across disciplines

Derivation of Exam Questions (2) • In 2008, questions were derived from the following disciplines: • Anatomy (8), Embryology (3), Histology (4) • Biochemistry (3), Molecular Genetics (3) • Pathology (12) • Physiology (13) • Pharmacology (6) • Clinical Medicine (3) • Microbiology (6), Immunology (3) • Public Health (5), QMP (5) • Paediatrics (1), O&G (4), Psychiatry (1)

  6. Advice for the EOP1 Theory Exam • Revise information relating to the main themes of each course • Revise online formative assessments • Don’t panic!

  8. Outcomes of 2008 Exam (1)Formative vs EOC and New Questions Mean percentage correct: F = 93.80 ± 9.74** N = 75.57 ± 19.64 O = 75.43 ± 20.50 **P<0.001 vs both N and O (Dunnett’s test) These figures are very similar to those for the 2007 EOP1 MCQ Exam (F = 94.31 ± 9.65, N+O = 74.27 ± 19.78)
