  1. Functional Area Owners Preparation for Primary Working Session

  2. Objectives today • To set expectations for the Primary Working Session • To ensure you have enough information to choose the team members for the Primary Working Session

  3. Setting expectations for the Primary Working Session

  4. How will the Primary Working Session Play Out? • After opening remarks, presentations about EMERS and a tour of SCMS (the Office of Science system) will start, and a reiteration of objectives/deliverables. • Facilitator will then guide the process for developing the Functional Area Description. Editor will make content changes on line while team discusses and decides on Functional Area Description Content • Next the Facilitator will lead the discussion on requirements • Next your editor and Facilitator will guide the scoping of Subject Areas and your assignment of lead Subject Matter Experts • The Facilitator will capture issues you want your teams to address in Secondary Working Sessions • Your editor will keep an ongoing record of the follow up needed, in an Action Plan.

  5. Diverse Teams • EM-60 provides the project framework, budget, etc. but EMERS needs EM directorates to provide the content • Improves the quality of output and empowers employees

  6. Deliverables for Primary Working Session • Draft of Functional Area Description • Action Plan: Lists Subject Areas, key staff, schedule, requirements • Requirement Report identifies high risk requirements, need for subject area, Content Development Leads, and any SMEs you choose. • Proposed Subject Area forms Formalizes your approval for subject area development; records your understanding about the public nature of the documents. The EMERS IPT will provide the support you need. Hard Copies will be provided at the meeting. Electronic copies are available at http://www.longislandscience.com/EMERS (see Workshop Details link on left)

  7. What to expect • It’s a dynamic environment; expect a balance of structure and brainstorming. Both are good at the right time! • Documents will define accountability; this may be a new way to write procedures for many, and it may be uncomfortable. Expect to be called on to support the EMERS team in developing documents to what may be a new standard.

  8. Conclude Questions? Please provide names of known attendees at this time. We will need a complete list of attendees two days prior to ensure our meeting facilities are appropriate and we have sufficient hard copy materials.
