  3. Introduction • What is WebOS?- A Virtual Computer running inside browser.- A computing research project Started at the University of California, Berkeley in 1996. Continued at Duke University, University of Texas at Austin, and the University of Washington.http://www.cs.duke.edu/ari/issg/webos/ • Here we focus on the first one. • Is it a real OS? • Some people call it Webtop or Web Desktop.

  4. Why use WebOS? • Portable( Actually you don't have to bring any thing ) • May not have to buy expensive OS any more. • Cross-platform. • Just need browser.

  8. Problems • Still in early stage. The best I can see is beta-version. • Slow • Need high bandwidth. • Functionalities are not enough compared to the OS we are currently using. • Some people may think about security concern.

Future Possibilities • Many People say that google is the good candidate for Web Desktop but google denied that. • If a startup company, like YouOS, succeeds, it will change the way we use computers. • From bulky computers to laptops • From laptops to flash drives • From flash drives to finger(just need fingerprint to log in your WebOS account) • Don't have to bring anything and remember password.
