Why area 8? • addressing the ERA in SSH • focussing on knowledge society objectives • with a view to maximise the present and future potential of SSH to address the key challenges & issues involved in the transition towards a KBS • includes • strategy development • assistance to the development of research infrastructures • dissemination and exploitation • forward-looking aspects

STREPs / CAs 8.2.1 Understanding and measuring social sciences and humanities and their impact • knowledge about social sciences and humanities in Europe; their institutional context; knowledge content; functions and contributions in economy and society 8.2.2 Promotion and support for comparative research, methodologies and data generation • promote and support comparative research through the development and diffusion of tools, methodologies, research designs and large scale data-sets of wide applicability for comparative research and across disciplines

Specific Support Actions 8.3.1 Increasing the visibility and impact of research infrastructures and activities for social sciences and humanities in Europe • to facilitate the mobilisation of research communities and to promote the use of research infrastructures (feasibility studies) 8.3.2 New approaches for policy-research dialogues in the ERA: targeted dissemination of EU research in national and multi-national contexts • national / regional / local dissemination days

Specific Support Actions 8.3.3 Promoting international research and policy cooperation in social sciences and humanities • workshops and conferences 8.3.4 New converging technologies and their wider implications for a European KBS • studies, workshops, meetings, state-of-the-art studies, network-stimulation activities, formation activities, conferences etc.

Other: To be implemented through expert groups and tenders 8.4.1 Providing the basis of European R&D indicators and statistics in the field of social sciences and humanities • studies, linked with Eurostat and OECD 8.4.2 Stimulating the coherence of social sciences and humanities within Europe and the mobilization of its research communities • a conference and a European Observatory of SSH 8.4.3 Enhancing the linkages between European data archives in social sciences and humanities • an expert group to analyse needs

Other: To be implemented through expert groups and tenders 8.4.4 Clustering projects in order to address key policy challenges for the EU 8.4.5 Improving and exploiting the knowledge base of social sciences and humanities in support of the knowledge based economy in Europe 8.4.6 Enhancing the integration of socio-economic dimension in European research 8.4.7 Promoting the participation of the humanities in the European Research Area
