  1. God’s Calling Redemption

  2. God's Calling • Leviticus 25:39-55 • 39 "'If any of your fellow Israelites become poor and sell themselves to you, do not make them work as slaves. 40 They are to be treated as hired workers or temporary residents among you; they are to work for you until the Year of Jubilee. 41 Then they and their children are to be released, and they will go back to their own clans and to the property of their ancestors. 42 Because the Israelites are my servants, whom I brought out of Egypt, they must not be sold as slaves.

  3. God's Calling • Leviticus 25:39-55 • 43 Do not rule over them ruthlessly, but fear your God. 44 "'Your male and female slaves are to come from the nations around you; from them you may buy slaves. 45 You may also buy some of the temporary residents living among you and members of their clans born in your country, and they will become your property. 46 You can bequeath them to your children as inherited property and can make them slaves for life, but you must not rule over your fellow Israelites ruthlessly.

  4. God's Calling • Leviticus 25:39-55 • 47 "'If a foreigner residing among you becomes rich and any of your fellow Israelites become poor and sell themselves to the foreigner or to a member of the foreigner's clan, 48 they retain the right of redemption after they have sold themselves. One of their relatives may redeem them: 49 An uncle or a cousin or any blood relative in their clan may redeem them. Or if they prosper, they may redeem themselves. 50 They and their buyer are to count the time from the year they sold themselves up to the

The price for their release is to be based on the rate paid to a hired worker for that number of years. 51 If many years remain, they must pay for their redemption a larger share of the price paid for them. 52 If only a few years remain until the Year of Jubilee, they are to compute that and pay for their redemption accordingly. 53 They are to be treated as workers hired from year to year; you must see to it that those to whom they owe service do not rule over them ruthlessly.

  6. God's Calling • Leviticus 25:39-55 • 54 "'Even if someone is not redeemed in any of these ways, they and their children are to be released in the Year of Jubilee, 55 for the Israelites belong to me as servants. They are my servants, whom I brought out of Egypt. I am the LORD your God.

  9. God's Calling • Leviticus 25 • 17 Do not take advantage of each other, but fear your God. I am the LORD your God. 18 "'Follow my decrees and be careful to obey my laws, and you will live safely in the land. 19 Then the land will yield its fruit, and you will eat your fill and live there in safety.

  10. God's Calling • Leviticus 25 • 23 "'The land must not be sold permanently, because the land is mine and you reside in my land as foreigners and strangers. • 42 Because the Israelites are my servants, whom I brought out of Egypt, they must not be sold as slaves.

  13. God's Calling • Romans 3 23 for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, 24 and all are justified freely by his grace through the redemption that came by Christ Jesus. • Sometimes people didn’t want to be redeemed...

  14. God's Calling • Paul later explains in Romans that if we believe in Jesus Christ we are redeemed from being slaves to sin, and now we are free to be slaves of God. • Romans 6:22-23 • 22 But now that you have been set free from sin and have become slaves of God, the benefit you reap leads to holiness, and the result is eternal life. 23 For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.

  15. God's Calling • Romans 8:18-23 • 18 I consider that our present sufferings are not worth comparing with the glory that will be revealed in us. 19 For the creation waits in eager expectation for the children of God to be revealed. 20 For the creation was subjected to frustration, not by its own choice, but by the will of the one who subjected it, in hope 21 that the creation itself will be liberated from its bondage to decay and brought into the freedom and glory of the children of God.

  16. God's Calling • Romans 8:18-23 • 22 We know that the whole creation has been groaning as in the pains of childbirth right up to the present time. 23 Not only so, but we ourselves, who have the firstfruits of the Spirit, groan inwardly as we wait eagerly for our adoption to sonship, the redemption of our bodies.

  17. God’s Calling • Redemption: Le Chambon • Pierre Sauvage: ”Stories like Le Chambon, of rescuers, are a banister kids can hold onto, while looking at evil in this world. If we don’t feel deeply that we are capable of good, we will be reluctant to face the extent we are capable of evil.”
