Conclusion • There is much to consider before deciding which fire code is best for the State of Michigan. • NFPA 1, Fire Code™ has a long history of proven compatibility with all building codes and is currently the state fire code in 19 U.S. states.
Conclusion (Cont…) • Technical guidance for existing buildings is a critically important issue. In this respect, NFPA 1 and NFPA 101, Life Safety Code® are the industry benchmarks and have been used in Michigan for decades. • However, there is more to consider than code compatibility and technical provisions.
Conclusion (Cont…) • When a state adopts a fire code, it is entering into a professional partnership with that code writing organization. Therefore, it is equally important to know what that organization stands for and its history of commitment (or lack thereof) to fire and life safety. • We hope you will carefully consider each of these issues and support the adoption of NFPA 1, Fire Code.
