Overview on Viet Nam TV broadcasting Viet Nam has 66 TV broadcasters: • - 3 nationwide TV broadcasters • 63 local TV broadcasters • 109 TV free-to-air program channels • So many local broadcasters! So many program channels! • More difficult to allocate the available frequency channels • to deploy DTV services

That is a big chance to deploy more radio broadband services; The more Broadband services, the more multimedia provided (such as Live TV channels, Interactive TV, Time-shifted TV, Video on demand...)

  9. TV digitization in Viet Nam Drafted Digitization Project on terrestrial: The final target of DTV roadmap: 95% of population served by digital TV. Transmission standard: DVB-T and its next versions; Compression standard: MPEG-2, MPEG-4 part 10/ H.264 (after 2014: MPEG-4 part 10 /H.264 is mandatory) Analog switch off has been scheduled from 2015 to the end of 2020 (region by region)

TV digitization in Viet Nam * Terrestrial DTV - VTC has launched DTV services since 2006, +2 MUX using MPEG-2 compression standard, + more than 20 TV program channels; - AVG has a trial of DTV SFNs with 3 MUX using MPEG-4 compression standard in Ha Noi and Ho Chi Minh City; More than 2 million set-top-box have been sold out to market
