  6. MATLAB vectors x = [3 4 12]; x 3 4 12 norm (x) 13

  7. MATLAB vectors x = [3 4 12]; y = [1 0 0]; c = dot (x, y); d = cross (x, y); c = 3 d = 0 12 -4

  8. 1 0 0 1 MATLAB integration z = inline (‘x * y’) integration = dblquad (z, 0, 1, 0, 1) 0.2500

  9. y 1000 1 1 1000 x On log-log graph paper, a straight line will indicate the power of a function y =xn n = +1 n = -1 n = + 1/2

  10. Line charges are located at (0, 4) and at (0, - 4). Find the electric field at the point P @ (4,0).

  11. Charge is distributed uniformly along an infinite straight line with a constant density L. Develop the expression for E at a general point P. -z r P R

  12. Three-point charges: Q1, Q2, and Q3 are enclosed within a sphere. What is the total dielectric flux that emanates from the sphere? The total dielectric flux is equal to the sum of the three charges. The density may not be uniform due to the location of the charges.

  13. Find the electric field above a charged sheet and a charged line. The densities are:s and L z Superposition and symmetry are valid.

  14. Carefully plot the electric field from an infinite charge plane as a function of distance. E 1000 1 1 1000 z Carefully plot the electric field as a function of distance from an infinite charged line.

  15. Calculate the total current that passes through a cylindrical conductor. 2 mm

  16. Find the resistance between the inner conductor and the outer conductor of a co-axial cable. D z a b Assume a current I between the inner and outer conductors.

  17. Find the magnetic flux density at the origin. A current filament is located @ x=2; z= -2 and it carries 5 A. z x

  18. Find the force per unit length on a wire carrying a current I and a distributed conductor carrying a distributed current density js. The currents are in the same direction. z y r h x w symmetry

  20. One sheet of paper – you can write on both sides No lengthy calculations on the exam 21 questions – #21 is Name____________ Old exams with no solutions are on the web

  21. Good luck!

  22. Pencils have been painted yellow ever since the 1890s. During the 1800s, the best graphite in the world came from China. American pencil makers wanted a special way to tell people that their pencils contained Chinese graphite. In China, the color yellow is associated with royalty and respect. American pencil manufacturers began painting their pencils bright yellow to communicate this "regal" feeling and association with China. The rest, as they say, is history. Today, 75% of the pencils sold in the United States are painted yellow!
