  2. How do I get from here:

  3. To here?

  4. Start with the article that you saved. Bring it up and reread it to make sure you have fixed anything that needed fixing . Think about what kind of embellishments you want to add.

  5. Now change the font on the title How long does this essay have to be?? By Cindy Student Mrs. Epstein per.2 Hearing that we have to write an essay is bad enough, but then comes the question of: “How long does this essay have to be?” That is always a tricky question to answer. If someone says it has to be two pages, does that mean that if Sally writes really large, her essay can be shorter than Jon’s essay, because

  6. Highlight the title and change the font to something more interesting and fun. You might want to change the size as well as the style of the font!

  7. Eliminate the teacher’s name and any other irrelevant information. Go back to the title and space it down a few times so that you can put a picture in the space before the article begins.

  8. Find a picture to use

  9. Place the picture on the article where you would want it. How long does this essay have to be?? By Cindy Student Hearing that we have to write an essay is bad enough, but then comes the question of: “How long does this essay have to be?” That is always a tricky question to answer. If someone says it has to be two pages, does that mean that if Sally writes really large, her essay can be shorter than Jon’s essay, because Jon writes really small? If we are told about 500 words, does that mean we have to stop every five minutes and count and recount words so that we have enough and not too many words? Figuring out how long an essay must be is sometimes as hard as writing the essay itself! When a teacher or a contest states that the essay has to be 500 words, how do we figure out how long that really is, without continually counting each word? There is an easy way. When someone is given a certain word length and the computer is not available, the arduous task of counting words begins. Most computers nowadays, have a word counter, so all the writer has to do is to check how many words she has written, and subtract that from the amount of words needed. Voila! What is left is what the writer must still write. We can even make this easier to estimate how long a handwritten essay can be determined. It is a simple procedure that will take only a few minutes. Simply count up the words in each of three or four full lines. For example: one line has 17 words; the next line has 15 words; the next full line had 16 words. The average line would then contain about 16 words. Then count up the lines on the page. Multiply the average number of words with the lines on the page. That will give an estimation of how long the essay must be. What exactly does this mean? Let’s look at an example to better explain this. Suppose the assignment says that the essay must be between 350 and 425 words. Since handwriting takes up more space than type writing, the average amount of words per line will be less. Using the example of an average of 10 words per line, let’s look at an average piece of loose leaf paper. There are usually 29 blue lines on a sheet of paper. Leaving the first line for the title, and skipping a line before beginning the actual essay leaves 27 lines for the first side of the paper. Multiply 27, the number of lines, by 10 the average number of words, giving us 270. This means there will be approximately 270 words on the front of the page. 425 minus 270 leaves 175. If we then divide the average number of words by the words left, it will give us the number of lines that we will need to be filled. That means there will be 17 and a half more lines needed, which is roughly ¾ of the next page. So, this means that the essay will be approximately 1 ¾ pages. Now it will be easier to estimate what to say and how to say it in the essay. The length is now roughly 1 ½ to 1 ¾ pages. Easy!!!! We can do that-no sweat!
