Beaufort Sea Strategic Regional Plan of Action (BSStRPA) • June 2004 • IGC concerns regarding the next wave of oil and gas development • 2005 • Gov’t of Canada provided funds to develop a Strategic Regional Plan of Action for Beaufort • April 2008 • The Beaufort Sea Strategic Regional Plan of Action (BSStRPA) was finalized • Regional Environmental Assessment (REA) for the Beaufort Basin logical next step

  3. Beaufort Regional Environmental Assessment (BREA) • BREA – delivery mechanism to implement BSStRPA • April 2009 – IGC endorsed BREA by resolution • Gov’t of Canada did not support • April 2010 – Macondo blowout • August 2010 – Gov’t Canada announces BREA program (2011-2015)
