Assessment of NWP Data Assimilation and Model Inter-Comparison for MAP Events

This project focuses on the inter-comparison study of numerical weather prediction (NWP) models during MAP (Mesoscale Alpine Programme) events, particularly analyzing November cases. Data from the MAP Data Centre has been compiled, converted, and shared with partners, accompanied by a descriptive report. The analysis emphasizes the setup of the LM-LAPS system for the MAP IOP occurring from November 5 to 9, 1999, characterized by significant precipitation events over the southern Alps, particularly in Veneto. The work aims to establish a robust framework for comparing model performances during synoptic cases.

Data assimilation and model inter-comparison • It has been agreed in the Bologna planning meeting that the inter-comparison study will be carried out on MAP events. • The work will be focused on the Nov cases. • Data have been downloaded from MAP Data Centre, converted and provided to the partner with a description report. • Quick look analysis • Set-up of LM-LAPS system
