ACE • Access to College Education • A partnership between Cornell University, Ithaca College, SUNY @ Cortland, Tompkins County Community College, and 13 area public schools • For students who have the ability to go on to college but don’t know if they have the resources to succeed • For students AND their parents

  2. What are the benefits of college? • Lifelong! • Increased income compared to income without college education • About the only thing more expensive than attending college? NOT attending college • Other non-monetary benefits

  3. A Lifetime of Earnings • According to the Census Bureau, over an adult's working life • High school graduates earn an average of $1.2 million • Associate's degree holders earn about $1.6 million • Bachelor's degree holders earn about $2.1 million (Day and Newburger, 2002).

  4. Other Advantages of a College Education • College will also add to your personal development by bringing you in contact with people, ideas, and experiences you might otherwise never have encountered • Other advantages include character development, life enrichment, ability to work collaboratively and in diverse community, and personal enrichment.

Why should I enroll in ACE? • Assistance in securing financial aid • Special admissions consideration to college • Greater access to college resources while in high school • Skill training and academic support to increase success in college • Training sessions and support for students and their families • ACE Newsletters

How do I enroll in ACE? • Attend an ACE information night • Determine if ACE is right for you • Discuss ACE with your school counselor when you sign up for next year’s courses • Complete ACE paperwork: • ACE Commitment • Information release form (optional) • Sample college application (optional) • Take challenging coursework

  7. ACE activities include: • CAMPUS TOURS • Field trips to college campuses • CONFERENCES • Motivational speakers • TV Anchorwoman Jackie Robinson • Olympic Gold Medalist Chris Campbell

How successful is the program? • Very Successful! • Class of 2004: • 135 ACE Seniors • 33% received the ACE recommendation • Almost 100% of those recommended were accepted to one or more colleges • Class of 2005 -145 ACE Seniors -Nearly 50 received the ACE recommendation -Almost 100% of those recommended were accepted to one or more colleges
