  2. Life and Death • Richard Nixon was born on January 9th, 1913 in Yorba Linda, California • Nixon died on April 22nd, 1994 in New York due to a stroke at age 81

  3. Family • Nixon had 4 brothers, all of which named for English kings due to family lineage to Henry III

  4. Political office and affiliation • Nixon served as both a Representative and a Senator for California and served as Dwight Eisenhower’s Vice President • Nixon ran on the Republican ticket twice for President. Once in 1962 against Kennedy and again in 1968 where he won against Hubert Humphrey and George Wallace

  5. Space Programs • When Neil Armstrong and “Buzz” Aldrin landed on the moon, Nixon had a speech prepared to give, but it was cut in favor of just a short phone call congratulating the pair. • The Space Shuttle program was signed into legislation under Nixon

  6. China • Richard Nixon was the first sitting President to visit China on February 21, 1972. This had the effect of greatly improving relations with China.

  7. Watergate • The Watergate scandal had to deal with a break-in to the Watergate Hotel which had been the National Democratic Committee Headquarters. Nixon was charged with having organized covering up the entire affair. This would lead to congress trying to impeach him.

  8. Impeachment • Nixon was not impeached for his actions, instead choosing to resign on August 8th, before he could be officially impeached. His successor, Gerald Ford pardoned Nixon after he got into office.
