  4. Past • Accreditation: • Paper files • Mailed applications, fees, training certificates, photos, résumés • Contractors: • Paper files • Mailed applications, fees, proof of worker’s compensation insurance, list of employees, etc.

  5. Past • Training Providers: • Paper files • Mailed applications and fees • Mail/fax course notifications • Mail/fax class list • Copies of certificates were not requested

Present • Accreditation: • Paperless file • Online renewals – ability to pay online • Mail initial applications and fee (applications, photos, training certificates, résumés can be e-mailed – fees need to be mailed) • E-mail photos (.jpg), applications (.pdf),résumés (.pdf), training certificates (.pdf) Email: asbestos@michigan.gov

Online Accreditation Renewals • February 1, 2012 – The Online Accreditation Renewal program went live and had it’s first user • On June 5, 2012 – The MIOSHA – Asbestos Program received a Reinvention Patent Award for Innovative Ideas for Increased Productivity • Awarded for increased productivity, elimination of unnecessary or duplicative processes, increased cost savings, improved quality of service and simplified work processes

Online Accreditation Renewals • February 1, 2012 – September 30, 2012 • 551 uses – renewing 620 applications (2,670 total) • 23% of the applications renewed were online • October 1, 2012 – September 30, 2013 • 1,102 uses – renewing 1,232 applications (2,598 total) • 32% of the applications renewed were online • October 1, 2013 – February 28, 2014 • 617 uses – renewing 676 applications (1,515 total) • 44% of the applications renewed were online

Present • Contractors: • Paperless file • Mail applications, list of employees, proof of workers’ compensation and fee (initial and renewal) • Deficiency letters e-mailed* rather than mailed (corrections to deficiencies can be e-mailed) • *E-mailing recently implemented. Make sure we have your correct e-mail address when you apply for the company license! Email: asbestos@michigan.gov

Ideas For Future Projects • Accreditation: • Initial applications submitted and paid electronically • Contractors: • Initial applications submitted and paid electronically • Training Providers • Provider schedule training course notifications electronically • Provider upload class lists and certificates electronically into database

Reminders • Accreditation: • Photos: NO beards, goatees, chin hair, etc.; No hats or head coverings; No dark glasses • Photos too dark…make sure the person can be clearly seen in the photo • Photos – need head and shoulders - don’t cut off a person’s head, chin or shoulders • Call before coming into the office to make sure someone is available to help

Reminders • Contractor: • Certificate of Liability Insurance • Issue date must be within the last 30 days (upper right corner) • Certificate Holder must be the MIOSHA-Asbestos Program (lower left corner) • Worker’s Compensation must be > 30 days from expiration • List of employees – Use either the FULL SSN or Accreditation Number • **If your employees take out-of-state training, be sure to supply a copy of their most recent refresher training certificate as well.**

  15. Reminders • Training Providers: • Initial class lists must contain students FULL SSN. • Email copies of all certificates issued for Initial and Refresher classes • Use asbestos@michigan.gov as the e-mail address for notifications, class lists, and copies of certificates

For regular notifications issues, please call (517) 636-4551 • Used for any questions regarding the form • Revisions • Which boxes to fill out • 1% project fee • For emergency notifications, contact (517) 322-1320 • Ask for an Industrial Hygienist to get approval • REMINDER: Per Act 135 of 1986, as amended, Section 220(8) states “…The written notice in emergency situations shall be provided within 48 hours after the commencement of the asbestos abatement project…” Phone Numbers

  19. Presently accepting notifications via mail, fax, or email (asbestos@michigan.gov) • Presently any 1% project fees will need to be submitted through the mail • Future development of a system to accept payments and issue refunds Present and Future

Whether you are starting a business or already operate one, the Michigan Business One Stop is your first stop for doing business in the State of Michigan. • Where can I access One Stop • www.michigan.gov/business • Who uses One Stop? • Asbestos Abatement Contractors and/or Demolition Contractors in order to complete the online notification of intent to renovate/demolish form. Currently MDEQ is using this option with a future development with LARA-Asbestos Program. Present - One-Stop

  21. Box Calculate LARA Asbestos Project Fee: • After printing from ONE STOP, remember to complete this section before submitted to MIOSHA • Box# 10 – Is Asbestos Present? • Only numbers in this section not types of material being removed. ONE STOP Submittals to MIOSHA

In the process of development for accepting online notifications submitted through ONE STOP • This will be another way to submit notifications to MIOSHA without having to print, fax, or e-mail • Once the notification is submitted on ONE STOP, it will be directed to the correct agency (MIOSHA and/or DEQ) based on notification type, footage, and materials Future - ONE STOP
