  2. Mental/emotional definition • A pychological or behavorial pattern that is usually associated with distress or disability that occurs in an individual and which is not a part of normal development or culture

  3. Anxiety Disorder • Generalized anxiety disorder (or GAD) is characterized by excessive, exaggerated anxiety and worry about everyday life events with no obvious reasons for worry. • Eventually, the anxiety so takes over the person's thinking that it interferes with daily activities, including work, school, social activities, and relationships.

  4. Effects of Anxiety • Difficulty concetrating • Nasusea and tiredness • trouble sleeping • Irratability • Easily started • There are many more also.

  5. Severe Depression • Depression is persistent unhappiness with decreased energy, loss of appetite, changes in sleep patterns, withdrawal and suicidal thoughts.

  6. Effects of depression • Excessive or inability to sleep • Social withdrawl and isolation • Personality change • Dropping out of activities • Inability to express emotions • Forgetfulness and losing things • Suicide and many other symptoms as well

  7. Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder • An anxiety disorder that is characterized by the sufferer experiencing repeated obsessions and/or compulsions that interfere with the person's ability to function socially, occupationally, or educationally

Effects of obsessive-compulsive • hand washing until the skin becomes raw • checking doors repeatedly to make sure they're locked • checking the stove repeatedly to make sure it's off • counting in certain patterns • making sure canned goods all face the same way • hair pulling resulting in hair loss or bald spots

  9. Schizophrenia • Schizophrenia is a complex mental disorder that makes it difficult to, tell the difference between real and unreal experiences, think logically, have normal emotional responses, and behave normally in social situations

Effects of Schizophrenia •Irritable or tense feeling •Difficulty sleeping •Difficulty concentrating •Lack of emotion (flat affect) •Strongly held beliefs that are not based in reality (delusions) •Hearing or seeing things that are not there (hallucinations) •Problems paying attention •Thoughts "jump" between unrelated topics ( “loose associations”) •Bizarre behaviors •Social isolation

  11. Health triangle • Mental/emotional- Is all these disorders • Physical- you could hurt yourself and there are delusions that could make you believe something is true when it is not. • Social-with many of these disorders you shut down and ignore people all around you.
