  2. Quick Write • Question: What does it mean to be mentally and emotionally healthy? List at least three traits that suggest good mental and emotional health.

  3. Vocabulary Terms 1. Mental Health and Emotional Health: is the ability to accept yourself and others, adapt and cope with emotions, and deal with problems and challenges you meet in life. Ex: Attending Sandy Run Middle School in 6th grade. 2. Personality: the unique combination of feelings, thoughts, and behavior that makes you different from everyone else. Ex: Athletic, social, outgoing, introverted.

  4. Vocabulary continued 3.Self-Concept: Is the view you have of yourself. Ex: A leader, follower 4.Self-Esteem: The way you feel about yourself, or how you value yourself. Ex: Getting cut from a team after trying out.

  5. Improving your Mental and Emotional Health 1. Motivate yourself: Setting short-term and long term goals. 2. Focus on your strengths: Make a list of your Strengths and Successes. 3. Understand and Manage Your Feelings: - What is causing your anxiety??? - Did I not prepare for a test???

  6. Improving Mental and Emotional Health Continued 4. Develop a Positive Attitude: Seeing obstacles as challenges that you can overcome. Looking forward to new experiences. Ex: Learning a new language Trying a new type of food Traveling to a different country

  7. Improvements continued 5. Learn from your mistakes: Ex: Talked back to parents and got grounded Didn’t prepare for the test and failed Showed up for a movie too late and the tickets were all sold out!!
