COMPASS Exit Exam • Each of you will find in your folder some blank sheets of paper and a pen to record your answers to the questions displayed on the overhead. • Please make sure that you keep up as we will not be able to return to previous questions. • You may not ask anyone for assistance. • You will be separated into groups based on your scores. • Good luck!
COMPASS Debrief • Did you feel prepared? • Did you experience any anxiety? • Did you feel rushed? • What was this experience like? • How do you think this experience compares to your students’ experience of taking the COMPASS exit exam?
Activity • Four volunteers needed • While the volunteers are preparing, consider the following questions during the role-play: • What is the instructor doing well? • What might the instructor do differently? • What are other potential solutions to the scenario? • Please do not share any student-specific stories.
Debrief – Scenario #1 • Computer access • Being prepared/practice • Help student solve his/her own problem • Student responsibility and accountability
Debrief – Scenario #2 • Prepare students prior to taking the exit • Student privacy-FERPA • Diffuse the emotional situation • Student responsibility/accountability • For students who are not satisfied: • Refer to the dean • Contact dean about students as necessary • Student will retake class
Addressing Anxiety • Think back to how you felt during test-taking • Think back to how you felt during the sorting of groups • How does this compare to how our students feel during test-taking? • How does this compare to the exit results showing that a student has failed the class? • How can we better prepare our students for these anxiety-producing situations?
