Implementing the New BioPreferred Farm Bill Requirements: Key Changes and Strategies

The 2014 Farm Bill introduces significant changes to the BioPreferred Program, particularly §9002, which now includes traditional biobased products like forest products. Eligible products must demonstrate innovative approaches in growing, harvesting, sourcing, procuring, processing, or manufacturing. The implementation strategy consists of two steps: first, to promulgate revised program guidelines eliminating the "mature market" exclusion, and second, to gather public comments on the proposed guidelines and finalize them. This process will enhance the inclusion of various biobased products in the marketplace.
