  2. Classicism Also Called “The Age of Reason” 1750-1800 Unlike Puritans, Classicists were more interested in the workings of this life than the next. Classicism

  3. Religion vs. Natural Laws In the 1700’s most nations were governed by monarchies. Monarchies originally got their power or position via God. Philosophers began to question the absolute authority of monarchs. Natural laws were now being used to explain the motions of objects and plants, not religious dogma or doctrine
