  3. Characteristics of Hydramethylnon Molecule Mass: 494.5 g/mol Melting Point: 185-190 C, 365-374 F, and 458-463 K Solubility: 0.006 mg/L at 25 C Bulk density (g/ml-1)/Specific Gravity: 1.67 Physical state - dark yellow or orange crystalline solid

  4. History and Description Hydramethylnon was discover in the early 1980s and improvements in its formation, delivery and deployment have helped create safe and effective pesticides. "Since 1908, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency has registered 28 commercial insecticides that contain hydramthylnon, including some with such descriptive names as Wipeout and Siege." Hydramethylnon inhibits the electron transport chain at complex III during the oxidative phosphorylation stage of cellular respiration. It is used in baits to control fire ants, leafcutter ants, harvester ants, big-headed ants, and cockroaches indoors and outdoors.

  5. Health Effects Hydramethylnon is obviously toxic to ants and cockroaches. It is also very toxic to fish including the rainbow trout and channel catfish. However, it is quite safe for mammals, birds, and honey bees. Hydramthylnon can irritate skin and eyes.
