  2. How Can Studying the Bible be Enjoyable? • Definitions- • “Study” – application of the mind to learn • “Enjoy” – to receive pleasure, satisfaction, fulfillment from • “Satisfaction” – gratification of a desire, need, or appetite

  3. The Capacity Of The Bible To Provide Joy • Bible Study Can be Enjoyable • Psalm 19:7-10 • Proverbs 24:13,14 • The Bible is Food For The Soul- • Deuteronomy 8:3 • If the Bible is not enjoyable, the problem lies within the individual, Not the Bible

What About My Need For Bible Study? • Am I be nature the kind of person for whom any kind of study is a joy? • Where am I in my spiritual development? • A babe in Christ with need for nourishment? • A mature Christian for whom the newness of Bible study has worn off? • Or the person in Psalm 1:2 whose “delight is in the law of the Lord”?

What About My Need For Bible Study? • Am I be nature the kind of person for whom any kind of study is a joy? • Where am I in my spiritual development? • A babe in Christ with need for nourishment? • A mature Christian for whom the newness of Bible study has worn off? • Or the person in Psalm 1:2 whose “delight is in the law of the Lord”? Do I Really Understand My Need For Regular Spiritual Nourishment, Or Have I Allowed This To Slip Down On My List Of Priorities?

Some Practical Suggestions To Make Bible Study More Beneficial, and therefore More Enjoyable • Study with Diligence • Work at it – study of any kind involves concentrated thought • Profit is almost always in proportion to investment • 2 Corinthians 9:6 “sow bountifully will also reap bountifully.

  7. Some Practical Suggestions To Make Bible Study More Beneficial, and therefore More Enjoyable • Study with Regularity • Occasional meals are insufficient nourishment • Acts 2:41,42 “they continued steadfastly in the apostles’ doctrine and fellowship, in the breaking of break, and in prayers.”

Some Practical Suggestions To Make Bible Study More Beneficial, and therefore More Enjoyable • Study with Method • John 5:39 “You search the Scriptures” • Haphazard, random, careless Bible study is as frustrating as attempting to do anything else without adequate know-how.” • It is also as dangerous

Some Practical Suggestions To Make Bible Study More Beneficial, and therefore More Enjoyable • Study to be Certain • Life and Death issues are involved • Acts 17:11 “more fair-minded .. received the word with all readiness, and searched the Scriptures daily to find out whether these things were so.”

Some Practical Suggestions To Make Bible Study More Beneficial, and therefore More Enjoyable • Study not merely to know, but to do • We need to be seeking information that will help us be more faithful in obedience to God • 1 Samuel 3:10 “speak for your servant hears” • Acts 22:10 “What shall I do, Lord?” • Ezra 7:10 “prepared his heart to seek the Lord, and Do it”

Whether We Enjoy Bible Study or Not Will Depend on Whether it Gratifies a Real Need Within Us • We Need to Need Bible Study! • 1 Peter 2:2,3 “as newborn babes, desire the pure milk of the word, that you may grow thereby, 3 if indeed you have tasted that the Lord is gracious.” • Having the need, we can then improve the quality of our study and thereby enhance its joy.

  12. Why not take an inventory of your own need for Bible study, and formulate a definite weekly plan of personal study of God’s Word Psalms 119:97
