  2. Introduction Annie Oakley was born on the 13th of August in 1860 as Phoebe Anne Moses. She was born in Ohio in a log cabin in Darke Country. When she was 16 (or around that time) she married Frank Butler, a professional marksman. She died on November 3rd of 1926, a few weeks before her husband’s death. She had no children because of her rollicking circus life.

  3. Social Contribution Annie Oakley lived “bigger than life” as she resided in the circus. She enhanced a lot to peoples’ respect for women’s ability; as she was one of the best sharpshooters on earth. She also treated many orphan children by having them come to the circus and giving them pink lemonade. She even kept Buffalo Bill’s circus afloat.

  4. Childhood Annie Oakley definitely had a rough childhood. She lived in extreme poverty, and her father died when she was just a little girl. Her mother had to send her to a place where insane people lived so Annie could make money working there. Later, she was adopted by a family that would send her to school, the “Wolves” this is what she called them, because she didn’t want to release their names to the public. They ended up being sinister, beating her regularly. Not sending her to school, treating her as a slave, and sending letters to her mother saying that she was doing well in school. She finally ran away and went back home. Her poverty made her frugal in later life. Annie also had a huge family, with four sisters and one brother, along with her and her mother.

  5. Adolescence Later, Annie started shooting for her families' dinner table with her deceased father’s huge gun. She was living with her mother and her stepfather. She was such a good shot, that she had too much game and got to sell some of it. She even paid off the mortgage of the huge house her stepfather had just bought. Later, she went to live with her sister and her sister’s husband. All of the practice on the animals greatly helped her shooting.

  6. Adulthood Annie got married to Frank Butler after beating him in a shooting match. Together, they went to Buffalo Bill’s Wild West circus after working for another circus that had bad conditions. In Buffalo Bill’s circus, she shot so well that she became one of the best sharpshooters on Earth. One time, they did a tour in Europe and went to England. Here, Buffalo Bill supposedly became jealous of Annie, and they had an argument and Annie and Frank left the circus. She and her husband went touring, and met Queen Victoria. She complimented Annie and was charmed by her talent. Annie finally went back to Buffalo Bill, and they remained friends until he died. Queen Victoria

  7. Tricks Annie Oakley had many different tricks that she would perform during shows. She would shoot glass balls while they slid down a string. She could shot a cigarette from her husband’s mouth. She could shoot a quarter to make it spin, and even shoot an apple off of her dog’s head. One of my personal favorite tricks she would do is when she looked at a mirror and shoot at reflected targets. Obviously, Annie was very talented.

  8. President James Buchanan James Buchanan was the president during 1860, the year Annie was born. He was born in Pennsylvania, was a Democrat, and was 65 during his inauguration. He served from 1857-1861, and John Breckinridge was his vice president.

  9. Interview What happened between you and Buffalo Bill? What is your real birth date, marriage date, and death date? Did you ever want to have children?
