  3. The mink is a mammal. Minks belong to the weasel family. Minks have thick, very soft brown or black fur. It has a long skinny body with short legs.

  4. It is about 17 to 28 inches long and weighs 1.3 to 3 pounds. The males are twice as big as the female.

  5. Minks live close to water like rivers, lakes and streams. They make their homes (den) in hollow trees or holes along riverbanks.

  6. Minks are meat eaters. They eat fish, birds, bird eggs, rats and other small mammals. The otter is the biggest predator of the mink. Many humans raise and kill the mink to sell their fur to make clothing. Minks live 3 years in the wild and 12 years in captivity .

  7. The mink’s babies are called kits. The mom can have 3 to 6 in a litter. It protects itself by hiding in holes. It also has sharp teeth and powerful jaws. Minks are invasive animals!
