  1. W->eν + jetsMove to CMSSW_2_1_10 Kira Grogg University of Wisconsin -Madison

  2. W+jets sample & selection • Using W->enu skimmed Summer08 samples • PAT (defaults) and Particle Flow with CMSSW_2_1_10 • Electrons are not yet part of PF • Reproducing W plots made with CMSSW_1_6_12 • Do not yet have backgrounds • Jets must have pT > 30 GeV

  3. MET Gen & Reco 1_6_12 Sample: >=1 PF jets (pt > 30 GeV)

  4. W PT Gen & Reco 1_6_12 PAT 2_1_10 PF-PAT

  5. W PT Gen & Reco, >=1 jets Sample: >=1 PF jets (pt > 30 GeV) 1_6_12

  6. W mT Gen & Reco, >=1 jets Sample: >=1 PF jets (pt > 30 GeV) No jet cut

  7. Electron PT Signal & Background 1 jet events 2 jet events Needs investigating Is result of jet cut Cuts: Tight ID Jet pt > 30 GeV 3 jet events 4 jet events 20 GeV cut on electron pT

  8. W MT Signal vs Background 1 jet events 2 jet events Cuts: Tight ID Electron pT > 20 Jet pt > 30 GeV 3 jet events 4 jet events 55 < W mT < 105

  9. MET Signal vs Background 1 jet events 2 jet events Cuts: Tight ID Electron pT > 20 55 < W MT < 105 Jet pt > 30 GeV 3 jet events 4 jet events 20 GeV cut MET???

  10. W PT Signal vs Backgrounds 1 jet events 2 jet events Cuts: Tight ID Electron pT > 20 55 < W MT < 105 Jet pt > 30 GeV Cuts: Robust ID Track isolation 3 jet events 4 jet events

  11. Jet PT Spectrum Cuts: Tight ID Electron Pt > 20 55 < W MT < 105 30 GeV cut on jet pT

  12. Leading Jet PT 1 jet events 2 jet events Cuts: TightID Electron pT > 20 55 < W MT < 105 3 jet events 4 jet events

  13. Overview of Selection of W events • 1st electron pT > 20 GeV, 2nd electron pT < 20 GeV • |η| < 2.5, with 1.4442 < |η| < 1.560 excluded • Tight electron ID • W MT cut of ±25 GeV around the W mass • pat::Jets, are built from iterativeCone5CaloJets • Particle flow jet pT > 30 GeV • No overlap (dR = 0.5) with electron from W • EM fraction < 0.9

  14. Conclusions/Future Plans • Using PF MET is not bad • But not great • Jet pt cut of 30 is reasonable and leads to better results • Need backgrounds
