Why would Facebook pay $1 Billion? • Create more equity for its IPO! • Aiming for $15.2 Billion, largest initial public offering ever • Becoming a very powerful SOCIAL Network. • Giving facebook a run for it’s popularity • Photo is worth 1000 words, retro filters • Ease, no ads, choose who to follow, the new kid • FB phone app sucks, Instagram is easy. • Need to break into smart phone app. • Fear of instagram receiving huge funding or being purchased by someone else.

What is Instagram? • Photo sharing social network specific for mobile phones • Initially exclusive to the iphones aka cool kids but recently expanded to android. • Share your experience or enjoy others • Allows people to apply awesome retro filters to look like polaroid’s. • Hashtag trending to categorize topics • 31M and counting

  5. Why brand’s are using instagram? • Engage with users/customers to photoshare for campaigns, contests, and features. E.g., tiffany’s • Products and food e.g., chobini, tom douglas • Provide status or educate e.g., ABC news, Obama Provide what is going on or share user experiences e.g., virgin America airline • Celebrities providing insight into their lives!
