  1. Grade level meetings October 13, 2011 Grade 7

  2. Why are we looking at ela data?

  3. literacy is the foundation for learning • We are using ELA data to learn about the process of forming/implementing data teams. • First, we looked at trend data to practice writing conclusion statements and ask questions. Why? • Today: • We will examine the ELA gap analysis at each grade level. • Where are the gaps? • If we closed any of these gaps, which one would most benefit my class? • Each grade level will choose one literacy goal. • What strategies can we use to address this gap? (brainstorm ideas for data team)

  4. Data team meeting October 27 • Look at the goal identified at each grade level. • Narrow the focus and choose specific teaching strategies to implement. • Prepare strategies for the next grade level meeting on 11/17. • Next Steps: • 11/17: Staff development on the specific teaching strategies, discussion about how to implement the strategies in classrooms • 11/17-12/8: Teachers implement strategies in the classrooms • 12/8: grade level meetings to share student work, review, revise, repeat

  5. Action Plan for achieving SMART Goals

  6. Small group discussion • Consider the data from the perspective of your classroom. • What conclusion statements impact your curriculum? • In your group, choose one statement for focus.

  7. Large group discussion • What is the one conclusion statement that could have the most impact on student achievement? • Notes: • Goal: By the end of the school year 78% of our students will make, confirm or revise predictions by distinguishing between relevant and irrelevant oral information as measured by the ELA. • Data: question 46-MC, Hamburg 69.3% of correct answers, Erie 1 BOCES at 75.07% , the GAP to BOCES -5.73% • Strategies:

  8. Concluding thoughts and new business • Next meeting on 11/17/11 • Strategy Staff Development: • New Business • Field Trips: Decided that we would look for approval for Rafting and Ontario Science Center. Hoping to have student choices by sometime in November. • Naturalization Ceremony: Tuesday, November 22. No judge available yet. Two options available for schedules: Period 1-4 or scattered throughout the day. • Civil War Days: Friday, May 18th. Have grants and everyone is invited. 14 speakers will be present. Please let Jason know your intentions by next Friday. • Notes:

  9. Concluding thoughts and new business • Notes:

  10. Concluding thoughts and new business • Notes: Math, FACS: Make confirm or revise predictions by distinguishing between relevant and irrelevant oral information using more oral word problems. • Reading recipes and predict what would happen if you misread, used wrong amounts • Theme: Short stories, guided practice • Foreign Language: Use correct grammatical construction in simple/compound/complex sentences • ELA: Going to work on all of this….but editing is important • Science: Drawing conclusions and making inferences in labs • Social Studies: Making inferences in DBQs, making predictions • Music: Critical analysis of lyrics, why did composer do something the way they did
