Americans in Orbit50 Years 1962-2012 www.aio50.org • Project: Gemini Detailed Drawings • Convert to CAD • How many drawings? • FEA analysis • Type of software? • This project may not be feasible during fall 2009 due to the current location of original drawings at the National Archives and Records Administration NARA in Ft. Worth, Texas.

  4. Americans in Orbit50 Years 1962-2012 www.aio50.org • Project: Fixed Tricycle Landing Gear for the Gemini Capsule • Bolt-on “cradle” wheeled design • Must consider descent rate of the capsule (landing at Edwards Air Force Base). • Re-tractable? • Budget? • Capsule weighs 3500lb and is currently on display at the US Space and Rocket Center • Other possible projects include repairing indentation on the capsule and removing corrosion/adding protective coating.

  5. Americans in Orbit50 Years 1962-2012 www.aio50.org • Project: Design & Build the Space Science Module (SSM) • Full-scale Prototype? • Budget? • Unpressurized • Dimensions (approximately 6 ft high, top diameter is 10ft and bottom diameter is 12 ft) • Wood or other less expensive material can be used for prototype. • Design a solar wing attached to module?

  6. Americans in Orbit50 Years 1962-2012 www.aio50.org • Project: Rogallo Wing • Full-scale Prototype? • Budget? • Attached to Gemini capsule • Testing can be completed at the Redstone Arsenal Airfield.

  7. Americans in Orbit50 Years 1962-2012 www.aio50.org • Project: Parasail • Full-scale Prototype? • Budget? • Improve upon original design (5 lines, winch to turn left and right) • Attached to Gemini capsule • Testing can be completed at the Redstone Arsenal Airfield.
