Objectives • Students will understand what type of buildings are located within their community. • Students will have a general understanding of what happens within these buildings. • Students will gain knowledge of various buildings through their observations during the field trip. • Students will understand the importance of these buildings and how they work together.

  4. Materials Needed • video on “Buildings in our Communities” • tape player & t.v. • Textbook • software Sim city

  5. Supplies • pencil • crayons • paper • clay

  6. Student Activities • Take a field trip around the community on bus. • Make a map of the community and place every building that you saw from the field trip on the map in the correct location. • Create your own building. Why should this building be built in this community? • Let students create their own community with buildings from Sim City. (software)

  7. Student Activities Cont’d • Watch a video on buildings in our community. • Make a building that you saw out of clay with a partner and describe to the class why you chose that building. Take all of the clay models and create a miniature community of buildings. (resembling our field trip)
