5. Why such an interest ? in the past: people using just a classic cotton molton fitted sheet(+/-200 gr or +/-400 gr./m²)  very primitve limited protection and not waterproof at all ! poor mattress hygiene

6. 30 years ago : introduction of the PVC coated protector  total waterproof protection ! better hygiene : perfect ‘’barrier’’ against bacteria & microbes & mites impossible to wash a mattress, but possible to wash a mattress protector washable at 95°C = enough to destroy bacteria, microbes, mites… initially just bought for incontinency…

7. 7- 8 years ago : introduction of the PU (Polyurethane) coated protector  total waterproof protection, with the same characteristics as PVC but : breathable ! ecological ! 31. A. • Lamination = • 1 small PVC or PU film (just 1 layer) is glued on a textile cloth • very common production process – low machinery investment • Coating = • 3 layers PVC or PU are fixed by thermoheating on a textile cloth • sophisticated production process - important machinery investment

32. B. • Lamination = • after several washes at 60°C (or 95°C) risk of - delamination- and no waterproof warranty on long term use. • not very durable • Coating = • after several washes at 95°C and intensive use, still 100%waterproof warranty and no deterioration in the long term. • durable
