It is really cold during the winter and pretty hot during the summer. • I enjoy reading a good book. When the weather is bad and I cannot go outside, I always like to sit near the fireplace and pull out a book I checked out from the library. I always have a cup of water beside me so that I do not have to get up from the fireplace for several hours. • I like math a lot. When I learn a new equation, I always like to use it many times with as many different numbers as possible. When I learn math, I am never bored, and even though it gets hard, I never feel tired of it. • I wake up early every day and eat a really good breakfast. I live in a large house and own a pool, a tennis court, and a large theater to watch movies with my family. Although there are many things we do not agree on and we can get really angry, at the end we all know that we still like each other. When we talk about politics, we get really excited and it can be really fun. • I want to be a medical doctor and am taking several science courses right now. 20. Teaching Children to Write More Complex Sentences • Teach children that they can add more descriptive adjectives before nouns • Teach children that they can combine sentences using conjunctions to create interesting sentences • Teach children that it is important children practice using as many different words as possible

  21. Lessons • Come up with three lesson plans for encouraging children to write more complex sentences.

  22. Example Lesson for Teaching Children • Give the children five topics to write about. Each child will write one sentence for each topic to start off. • A week later, ask the children to add a little writing to each of their sentences using what new words they learned. • Wait one more week and ask the children to add a little more writing to each of their sentences using what new words they learned. • Ask the children to draw a picture for each topic to finish off the activity.

  23. Lessons • Come up with three lesson plans for teaching children to describe and instruct using English.

  24. Example Lesson for Teaching Children • Have the children draw a huge map of the city together and decorate the map • Draw two points on the map and ask the children to write down instructions for getting from one point to the other • Ask the children to describe the two places (e.g. one point is the park and the other point is the market) • Have the children write down their descriptions for the two places on the huge map right next to the two drawn points • Repeat steps as many times as possible

  25. Another Possible Lesson • Set up an obstacle course in the classroom and make sure that you make the obstacles interesting • Ask the children to line up and give different instructions to each child • Instruct the children through the obstacle course using phrases such as “go under the cardboard table,” “go around the green chair,” and “climb over the blue table.” • Change up the instructions so each child has practice listening and getting used to English

  26. Lessons • Come up with three lesson plans for encouraging children to write down their daily thoughts.

  27. Example Lesson for Children to Write Down Daily Thoughts • Have the children practice writing English by having them write down a one sentence description of what their day was like • By taking the time each day to write down one sentence, each child will understand English better. • After having the children write down their thoughts, have the children talk to each other regarding their day to practice their speaking and listening skills
