Accomplishments 2009-2010 Finalized the draft ICC Long Term Strategic Plan- Goal: Influence decision-making and reduce the harm associated with binge drinking with an emphasis on underage binge drinking, drinking and driving with an emphasis on teenage and young adult drinking and driving. Tasks: • Reviewed the supporting epidemiology • Researched opportunities to braid federal prevention funds (ie. Enforcing Underage Drinking Laws Grant through MBCC; Bridges Grant through OPI; Health Care Reform) • Completed inventory of state agency prevention programs, resources and services – update is ongoing

Accomplishments 2009-2010 • Aligned work with environmental prevention strategies to address underage drinking, binge drinking and drinking and driving through the Montana SPF SIG grantees (MT Community Change Project) • Discussed state level policy issues that impact youth substance use; provided testimony at Law and Justice Interim Committee/DUI Study; DOR Admin Rules • Strategized and cross educated on emerging prevention issues such as prescription drug abuse, marijuana, and heroin. • Cross educated and shared updates on agency work in prevention (i.e. RASS Training, DUI Task Force resources, Town Hall Meetings held to address underage drinking)

Accomplishments 2009-2010 • Collaborative Media Campaign aimed at Parents – grant with MBCC to fund; UofM Broadcast Center to produce; DPHHS/PRC to coordinate; MDT develop/house website • Prevention Connection – Special Edition – Underage Drinking Toolbox • TV and radio PSAs – Parents as the number ONE influence in a youth’s life and decision to drink or not drink while underage • New dynamic website: www.parentpower.mt.gov Continual updates/links to add Weave in culture considerations

Looking Forward to 2011 Through the ICC Structure, statute, and collaboration, MT is very well poised and ready for system integration to include prevention funding via • Department of Justice • Department of Education • Substance Abuse Mental Health Services Administration • Office of National Drug Control Policy • Health Services Administration • Military Affairs • Federal level funding streams requiring a comprehensive plan and integration. • Emphasis on funding local environmental universal community driven strategies.
